Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez delivered another Maravilla knockout on Saturday night when knocked out Dzinziruk in the 8th round. Sergio changed his game plan in this fight to face Dzinziruk who is known for his sharp and accurate jabs. There is reason why Dzinziruk is the WBO Junior Middleweight Champion. His jabs are very effective. Sergio fought a great fight.

Sergio was out jabbing Dzinziruk in the first couple of rounds. In the 4th round, he was charged with knocking down Dzinziruk when his knees hit the ground. It was the first official knock down in Dzinziruk’s career.  In the 5th round, there was no question when Sergio dropped Dzinziruk with a left hook. In the 7th round, Dzinziruk had his best round when he was using his jab to his advantage and landing some good shots on Martinez. The 8th round was a spectacular round for Martinez when he dropped Dzinziruk 3 times. The last one to knock Dzinziruk out was a Paul Williams-ish type of knock out. Martinez left hook to the chin is becoming his trademark punch.

Maravilla Martinez is without a doubt one of the best fighters in the world. He is also one of the rare fighters who peaks at the age of 36. Sergio Martinez by far is in the top 3 of Pound for Pound fighters. After this spectacular performance, I don’t think any of the elite fighters would want to fight him. Pacquiao is to small unless he decides to fight him at a catch weight of 150 pounds which won’t happen. Mayweather would not even entertain a fight with Martinez at 154. The only fights out there could be Miguel Cotto at 154, Felix Sturm at 160, Andre Ward, Lucian Bute and Carl Froch at 168. Martinez has not fought at 168 and it might be too much for him but he may have to entertained a fight at 168 if he has no suitors at 154 or he is unable to fight Felix Sturm or any other good fighter at 160. What we may end up seeing is Martinez fighting the winner between Sebastian Zbik and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.

Here are highlights from the fight. Enjoy.
