This weekend in Washington, DC, over 20 cities from around the country will compete in the Street Soccer USA Cup tournament. From my experience going in 2008 and 2009, the Street Soccer USA Cup is like a family gathering. People from various parts of the country come together to tackle an issue that we deeply care about and we do it by playing soccer. I was filled with joy seeing players represent their cities and forming friendships with other players. The atmosphere that is at the tournament is amazing. To follow up the scores from the games go to www.streetsoccerusa.org
After the final on Sunday, the players will be selected to represent team USA in the Homeless World Cup that will take place in Paris, France, which is to be played in August of this year.
I wish all the teams luck. Go team Los Angeles. Here is a promo video to show the beauty of street soccer and the positive impact it has made in people’s lives.
