Pictures from Dodgers vs Yankees Game-7-30-13

July 31, 2013

Last night, the Dodgers gave their fans a glimpse of October baseball. With the stadium sold out and the Yankees in town, it felt like a World Series game instead of a regular inter-league game.
The Dodgers got on the board first with Yasiel Puig hitting a double off the center field wall. It was a few feet short from going over. Puig scored on Hanley Ramirez line drive single.
The Yankees tied the game with a solo home run by Lyle Overbay in the top of the 2nd inning. Juan Uribe gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning with a blast that landed in the second deck in left field.
In the 4th inning, the Yankees tied the game when Alfonso Soriano double to left field, advance to 3rd on a wild pitch by Greinke, and scored on a ground out by Overbay.
From the 4th inning til the 9th, it was a pitchers’ duel. Zack Greinke pitched a beautiful game. He was trying to win his 100th game of his career. He left after the 7th inning with the game tied so he had to settle for a no decision.
In the 9th innng with Andre Ethier on 1st and two outs, he took a risk and stole 2nd base. Ethier is not known as a base stealer and by doing so, he put himself in position to score the winning run.
Mark Ellis had a great at bat. He fouled off a couple of pitches then lined a 3-2 pitch for a bloop single over Derek Jeter to win the game. It was the Dodgers second consecutive walk off win with the previous being Puig’s game winning home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. With the Dodgers win and a Dbacks loss, the Dodgers increased their lead to 3 1/2 games.
The Dodgers are now 10-1 since the All Star break, a Dodgers record. And since June 21, they are 27-6, the best 33 game stretch in Los Angeles Dodgers history.
Here is a video of Mark Ellis at bat and Andre Ethier stealing second. If the Dodgers keep winning these close games, we will be seeing the Dodgers play October baseball.

Pictures (and Video) from Yasiel Puig’s Game Winning Homerun

July 30, 2013

This past Sunday, I took my 4 year old niece to the Dodgers vs Reds game. The game was a pitchers’ duel as both teams were scoreless heading into extra innings.
Given that my 4 year old niece was getting tired and was asking me to leave, I decided to leave the game at the top of the 10th inning. I didn’t want to force her to stay even though I wanted to continue watching the game.
Having said that, I was briefly listening to the Dodgers game on the radio before my niece asked me to change it to Radio Disney. We listen to Radio Disney til I arrived home. It was only til then that I found out that Yasiel Puig had hit a game winning homerun in the bottom of the 11th. I was happy that the Dodgers won.
As much as I wanted to stay at the game, I am glad I was able to spend time with my niece. I may have missed the game winning homerun but my time with my niece is priceless.
