NBA Commissioner Bans Clippers Owner Donald Sterling For Life

On the anniversary of the Los Angeles 1992 Uprising, NBA Commissioner Silver banned Clippers Owner Donald Sterling for life. That was the right call. Not only was it the right decision it was the only decision that could have been made. It was about time that the NBA took action on Donald Sterling. The fact that he was an owner for so long and despite his racist past, the NBA never did anything.

Now that the Donald Sterling has been banned for life, the question now is how long will it take for the NBA to force Sterling to sell the Clippers? The fact that the NBA players were willing to boycott the games, I think that brought the attention of several owners and put their support behind the commissioner’s decision to ban Donald Sterling.

If Sterling sells the team he is still going to make billions of dollars just the same way McCourt ended up banking on the Dodgers. I think the NBA would take over the Clippers during the process that it takes for Sterling to sell the team. It will be interesting to find out how long it takes and where does the league go from here.

One side note, it was April 29, 1992 when Los Angeles exploded over the Rodney King verdict. Fast forward to today when racism is at the center stage and this time it is condemn and one suffers the consequences of their racist rants. Racism still exist at all levels. Don’t be surprise if their are more NBA owners that share Sterling’s views. The only thing is they haven’t been caught. Let’s hope we as a country can learn from this episode and move forward as a nation.
